When I first read The Picture of Dorian Gray some fifty years ago I thought that it was a simple plot of someone wanting to live forever and exchanging his soul for it. I even saw a screen production on TV a few years later and my perception was pretty much the same.
Nowadays I realized that ageing -- or the loss of youth -- is not only dictated only by physical decadence but quite influenced by human feelings.
